Who we are?
Little advertised but an awesome program for playing tennis during Michigan's colder months. The program is run by Ann Arbor Ski Club. There are three sessions: Fall, Winter, and Spring. They last 10 weeks each. The fall session starts in middle September, the winter session starts in December and the spring session - in February. The games are played at Chippewa Tennis Club.
The Fall 2006 session runs from Sept 16/17 to November 18/19. The Winter 2006/2007 session runs from December 2/3 to February 17/18 and the Spring 2007 session runs from Febriary 24/25 to April 28/29. From year to year the exact dates for sessions may change.
There are two groups: the Saturday group plays on Saturdays at 6pm and the Sunday group plays on Sunday at 6.00pm and 7.30pm. The play is doubles, the duration of one game is 1.5 hours. The players range from beginners or getting-back-into-it (NTRP 2.5) to advanced (NTRP 4.0). The Saturday group can be up to 24 players and plays mixed doubles and mixes the players so that everybody gets to play with everybody. The Sunday group is larger (up to 48 players) and players are assigned to the courts according to a skill-based ladder. The Sunday group has also started as mixed doubles, but recently switched to playing coed (equal footing for both genders) doubles.
